'Effegies' Series
A portion from original exhibition statement Aug. 15-29, 2008:

"I know that in today's culture, artwork depicting the nude form is a bit of a touchy subject and that work depicting the male nude is even more of a controversy... Nudity has become synonymous with indecency, confusion, and an inability to mean something greater than the simple sum of its parts.
The meaning here with these pieces is to explore this lost theme in art, to find a way of viewing the male form with more of a modern, abstract eye while never forgetting that is it is equally simple and complex, graphic and sculptural, and most importantly, a symbol of masculinity, humanity, and sexuality without the gratuitous implication of indecency. Maybe in today's culture, a broadening of traditionally narrowed values is possible and the line between 'acceptable' and 'unmentionable' can be pushed, if only we again see the value in celebrating something we all live with so intimately."
